Rated 5 out of 5 by Jhosline from Great budget tablet I bought a tablet, because it is inconvenient to watch movies from a laptop, and even more so to read. And then the laptop stopped being a need for me. Everything was fine - I took a screenshot or saved it in .pdf and went to the project approvals (as an example)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lans87 from Reliable and convenient tablet, verified! I am 5 years old. I actively use the tablet when traveling by car and railway transport, in Everyday life and for work. Comfortable and ergonomic design, excellent functionality and reliability is exactly what I expected from Samsung. Ownership period is about 3 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Graflex from For the money there is no better. The most comfortable size. The best ratio of size, weight, price and features. I would like more memory, but this is solved by a flash drive. And so is an excellent indestructible tablet, which can still be carried in a jacket pocket or cargo pocket of pants, which can be operated with one hand and which does not create a feeling of heaviness. I have never been able to drain a battery in one day. All in all, this is a very balanced product, where affordable price does not mean Bad quality and lack of opportunity. I didn’t like only the cameras, and over time, the front one picks up microdust particles and the contrast still drops, very noticeably. The rest is reasonable and sufficient. Withstands bumps and drops that would most likely kill anything more fashionable and subtle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Luel from This device is well worth its price. I bought this tablet a few months ago. Stayed pretty good. Especially after all sorts of cheap Chinese tablets, you immediately feel the power, harder and brighter. Sometimes, of course, lags appear, they passed after a reboot or a complete one after deleting all data. I certainly took this tablet for games. Unfortunately, there is little memory, two favorite games cannot be on the tablet at the same time, and I can’t sacrifice the necessary programs, even a flash drive does not save. And I still don’t understand why you can’t delete unnecessary applications like play music, etc. here. After all, I never use them, they just take up space in vain. And yes, I'm very pleased with this tablet, for me the only negative is the memory.

Last years IFA has become the place where Samsung presents all its new products. And this time the company has opened a new stage in its history, which cannot but excite us. SuperAMOLED screens have been one of the most important breakthroughs in smartphone history, and now they're making their way to mobile computing. Meet the Review samsung galaxy Tab 7.7. With detailed description appearance, compare Galaxy specifications Tab 7.7 with other models from this line.

As the name implies, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 features a 7.7-inch SuperAMOLED Plus display gem. This tablet is a testament to the fact that the mobile computing industry is progressing at an impressive pace. In a single year, Samsung has more than doubled the speed of processors and mass-produced superior display technology, while at the same time reducing device thickness by about a third.

Not only do we get Super AMOLED Plus instead of regular LCD, but we also get a larger screen size with more high resolution in a case that does not increase in size. Plus, a new version of the Android 3.0 system, specially designed for Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablets, which replaced Gingerbread, is sewn inside, while working with which the feeling of a huge phone does not disappear.

    Specifications Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

    Form factor:

    196.7x133x7.89 mm

7.7" Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen, 16 million colors, WXGA resolution (1280x800 pix)

    Android 3.2 Honeycomb, TouchWiz UI

dual core Cortex-A9 1.4GHz CPU, Mali-400MP GPU, 1GB RAM, Exynos chipset

3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and 720p video recording; LED flash; front 2 megapixel camera

internal memory 16/32/64 GB, expandable via microSD slot

All these samsung specifications The Galaxy Tab 7.7 shows that Samsung is a fast learner. In the rapidly growing tablet market, nothing can be achieved by being just as good as everyone else - you have to be the best. And what could be more convincing than the combination of the most powerful mobile chipset, impressive screen and thin body?

    Design and display

The fact that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 has the thinnest case profile and the most harmonious proportions between frame thickness and screen size than any of the competitors tells us that the design is to be praised. But strengths It doesn't stop there - there's also a black metallic color, intricately curved lines and the absence of buttons on the front panel - all this gives a feeling of unique high-tech.

Thus, we can conclude that the description of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 clearly indicates the embodiment of technology, which we have only seen this year. And another undoubtedly positive thing is that when you hold a gadget in your hands, you understand - its class suggests - coolness is valued more than practicality.

However, despite all the superlatives it deserves, the design of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 won't be a key selling point. For the role of a key factor, a 7.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with WXGA resolution is more suitable.

If you're still not impressed, it's also worth noting that the Galaxy Tab 7.7's screen has the highest pixel density of any tablet at 196 ppi. For comparison, 7? The Galaxy Tab is 169 ppi, the Xoom's LCD screen is 149 ppi, and the iPad's display has a pixel density of just 132 ppi. Note that smaller tablets need to have a higher density in order for the screen to be normally readable with close range, so 7.7? the screen is the clearest of all competitors.

And then there's the amazing picture quality that Super AMOLED Plus brings to the table. With AMOLED technology, blacks are as deep as can be made by turning off individual groups of pixels, which is impossible in LCD, where the entire panel is illuminated at all times during operation.

The viewing angles of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 display are simply impressive, especially if you look at the icons from an angle - they seem to be drawn on the top glass, they are not distorted or stretched at all. Of course, at extreme angles there is color distortion (if we are talking about angles close to 180 degrees), but this is the worst thing that can be said about this display. None of the competing devices even come close to such characteristics.

Finally, since super displays AMOLED Plus reflects virtually no light, so you don't have to worry about losing picture quality in bright light. Problems of clarity in the sun are also absent - for the first time for tablets.

So far, tablets have used screens that are far inferior in quality to high-end smartphones. The iPad couldn't compete with the iPhone, the Xoom screen couldn't compare to the Milestone LCD, and even Samsung's own screens on the Galaxy Tab aren't as good as those on the Galaxy Tab. Galaxy smartphones S. And in the case of the Galaxy Tab 7.7, we see that the trend has changed.

The rest of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

When we were finally able to take our eyes off the Galaxy Tab 7.7's beautiful display, we noticed that the tablet, like the rest of the Honeycomb devices, is equipped with just two hardware controllers. All internal navigation is done from the screen, so the hardware buttons on the front don't make sense. All it has is a headphone jack and a camera for video calls.

Unlike the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 runs in portrait mode by default. This way, when you hold your computer with the headphone output at the top, you can read the Samsung logo without tilting your head. Of course, you are free to use the tablet in any orientation mode, but we kept it that way, describing all the subsequent functionality.

On the bottom, there are stereo speakers, a microphone, and an original Samsung port used to charge the Galaxy Tab 7.7, connect it to a computer, or provide HD TV output. Once again, we don't have a standard microUSB connector at our disposal, and, frankly, we're starting to lose hope that it will ever become the norm.

On top of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is another microphone hole and a 3.5mm audio jack.

On the left there is a slot for microSD and another one for SIM. Since Android Honeycomb has resolved all microSD card issues, you can now use this slot to expand the internal 16GB of storage by another 32GB, and this solution will be cheaper than buying the 48GB version of the device.

On the right side of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 there are only two hardware buttons - the volume control and the power button, it also serves to lock the screen. An infrared port is installed below them, which can be used as a conservative method of communication and control. We can not see real benefit using infrared on a tablet, but apparently Samsung is thinking of some special applications for it. And in general, its presence does not spoil anything, does it?

We ended up looking at the back, where the 3.15MP camera is located, with 720p video recording capability. Tablets can hardly be called the most convenient devices for taking photos (even if we are talking about the rather compact Galaxy Tab 7.7), so the camera here is more of an accessory than a full-featured option. That is why we do not see the point in dwelling on its specifications - it is good enough for the needs of most users.

Under the cover is a 5100 mAh battery that can power the device for at least a day with moderate loads. Nothing remarkable can be said about her. It is not removable, but this is normal for tablets today.

In general, the tablet feels like a very good build. And only when you take it in your hands, you can feel how thin it is.

While we haven't used the tablet for too long, we haven't noticed any detail that looks cheap or out of place. Now let's review the software.

    User interface

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is running the latest version of the Android tablet platform - Honeycomb 3.2. Samsung has also equipped its gadget with a special TouchWiz UI shell.

Theoretically, this may mean that the user should be in the same environment as on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. In practice, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 performs much better, and it's immediately clear that the Honeycomb 3.2 delivers much better performance.

The only argument we would like to make against Honeycomb is the noticeable performance degradation when working with many applications from Android Market. We know that they are most likely not optimized for tablets, but if they work fine on WVGA smartphones with single-core 1GHz processors, it would be nice if they worked at least as well on dual-core chipsets, despite the increase in resolution. And on the Galaxy Tab 7.7, this is exactly the case.

Perhaps the Exynos chipset with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor is the reason for this, but we tend to boil it down to belated optimization.

To the extent that you are interested in convenience and simplicity - Honeycomb will not give you anything to complain about. Designed from the ground up for tablets, the platform provides apps with navigation buttons in the user interface at the bottom left of the screen - back, home and task manager (plus a screenshot button if it's TouchWiz), a search shortcut at the top left, an app menu at in the top right corner and, last but not least, the quick settings and notification settings area (again, thanks to touchWiz) in the bottom right corner.

Editing the home window works as usual. Beautifully redesigned to work with a larger screen, the environment provides you with five full-fledged desktops with four tools - widgets, applications, wallpapers and more.

Thus, you can drag the widget from the bottom panel and move it to the desired location on any of the desktops. On smartphones, you had to rewind desktops if you wanted to move a widget from one to another.

Unfortunately, unlike most Android smartphones, tablets don't have an option to control the number of desktops. Five grand might be good for some, but if you don't need that many, they just slow down navigation, and if you need more, there's no way to get beyond that.

Another nice feature in TouchWiz is the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, which is no longer static. It slides up and reveals seven labels. Clicking on any of them opens a widget that you are free to move around the screen.

All shortcuts hidden in the taskbar are links to Samsung's own apps. Their list includes a regular task manager, world clock, PenMemo application (taking notes), calendar, calculator, music player and phone application. All of them, with the exception of the task manager and the phone, are links to the corresponding full-length applications. In most cases, the functionality of these applications is overridden by other access methods, so you do not need to use this panel often.

The application menu is quite ordinary, here you operate with two sections - All and My applications. The first one contains all available applications, and the second one contains only those that have been installed by you. If you press and hold your finger on one of the icons, then five desktops will appear to place a shortcut on any of them.

Samsung has also added several apps to the Galaxy Tab 7.7 preinstall package. With this tablet, you will get a native video player, file manager, document editor and ebook application (reading books) - all of them are very necessary, and it is gratifying that Korean developers have taken care of their customers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: first impressions reviews

Tablets sell very well, not because they are as productive as computers, but because they are more fun to use. And the “interesting use” label really suits the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. and reviews - it's nimble, it looks cool and has an amazing screen.

Honeycomb was designed to give tablet interfaces the most functionality, but its performance left much to be desired for a long time. Now the issues seem to be resolved and Google's tablet platform looks poised to be the best.

Price. If the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 does not break through the $600 price barrier at the beginning of sales, then it will most likely be a success in Russia - Super AMOLED Plus alone makes the device one of the best, and the powerful chipset and thin body are great bonuses.

We hope that Samsung will do its best and bring the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 to the Russian market in the near future. The competition these days is very tough and today's super device can be downgraded in rank and quality after some half a year after the release - it will be very unpleasant if a similar story happens to such a tidbit of technology as the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet was introduced to the general public last fall, but the model entered the market much later (there was even a corresponding presentation in Russia), and it only got to our review just now. However, the device is still relevant. Main Feature The device manufacturer calls it a 7.7” Super AMOLED Plus touch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Naturally, this is not its only advantage, and as a person not particularly familiar with tablet computers, it was very interesting for me to get to know him better.

    Design and construction

The official package includes the tablet itself, a charger, a cable for connecting to a PC, a headset with several nozzles, and documentation. However, a copy from the Samsung test fund came to the review, complete with only a charger and a sync cable, and as a small bonus, a branded case. The tablet obviously did not pass through journalistic hands alone. This is evidenced by a mark on the back metal cover. Apparently, someone tried to test the device for strength and, as you can see, it passed the test. Except for this moment, the tablet looks presentable and inspires reliability, the feeling of an expensive thing. Those who have held tablets with Chinese roots in their hands know what I'm talking about. I must say that the 3G module is present in the P6800 model, while the P6810 offers only Wi-Fi.

On the front side there are light and proximity sensors, a 2-megapixel camera, a speaker hidden behind a metal mesh, a 7.7 ”touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and Gorilla Glass protective glass. This glass is known for its durability, which was confirmed by two weeks of testing - there were no scratches on it. The left side is decorated with microSD and SIM card slots. The holes themselves are closed with plugs, it is not difficult to open them, but they make a reliable impression. Nothing hangs or sticks out. The right side houses the volume keys and the power button. The key travel is moderately tight, it is convenient to use them. Since the sample is a test one, it has a feature that commercial copies do not have - an infrared port. The top side contains a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone for noise cancellation and stereo video recording. Below we see two stereo speakers, a second microphone and a connector for connecting charger or sync with PC. On the back of the device is the main 3.2-megapixel camera with flash, the manufacturer's logo on the aluminum cover, information about the version of the model and its serial number. The lid does not creak or dangle, however, in the process of use, its slight delamination from the body was revealed, however, it is easily fixable. Metal pleasantly cools the hand, and looks stylish. Here Samsung has done its best.

The tablet really turned out to be very attractive in appearance and differs both from Samsung tablets and from products from other manufacturers. The design of the rear side, however, is a bit reminiscent of HTC devices, but in general, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is an original and pleasant product. Comparisons with the iPad will not be appropriate here.

    Software

At the time of writing the review, the tablet was running Android 3.2 Honeycomb. As for the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, a company spokesperson said to expect it closer to summer. The proprietary TouchWiz, known from Samsung smartphones, but adapted for tablets. The interface is quite nice and clear. Many users complain about significant slowdowns while working with the tablet, but I can say that the device does lag at times, but only slightly. This is usually seen in the widget selection menu. Widgets themselves don’t go anywhere without demand, they don’t consume traffic. Manual updating of states is offered, but in the settings you can set automatic ones.

By default, the user is allocated three desktops, their maximum number can be up to seven. At first, it was difficult for me to fill even two - there were not very many standard widgets. Mini-applications are hidden in the status bar. Their number and the programs themselves can be customized and selected. The “Back” button is responsible for returning to the previous position, “House” returns to main screen, with a long hold, calls the task manager, “Running Applications” shows active and background programs, and the last button is responsible for taking screenshots. Several factory pictures are offered as a desktop background, including “live wallpapers”. Some of them do not look at all on the tablet screen, the saturation and richness of which reveals all the flaws of a particular picture, so I recommend installing some program from Google Play to find and install normal high-quality images. In my case, PicSpeed Wallpaper was used.

In the Settings of the tablet, you can see both standard Android items and branded add-ons from Samsung. For example, in the screen section, you can select its mode - standard, film, or dynamic. This will allow you to slightly mute the colors of the screen or make them more calm and natural.

As you can see, the device has a phone book, a dialer and a message application. Since the model is equipped with a 3G module, you can easily call and write to your contacts directly from the tablet. It's not very convenient, and calling from a tablet is generally ridiculous (without a Bluetooth headset), but when your phone runs out of power at the most inopportune moment, the dialer functions can pretty much help you out.

The tablet offers several input types: standard keyboard, Samsung keyboard, Swipe keyboard, and handwriting. It is quite simple and convenient to work with all types. Serious problems with the development will definitely not arise.

The standard browser is very similar to Google Chrome for PC, offers synchronization with the desktop version of Chrome, allows you to customize the display mode for better power savings, supports flash and offers many settings. Internet surfing itself gives little pleasure due to the peculiar display white color, characteristic of AMOLED screens (bluish tint) and increased battery consumption when displayed. And if the first point can be called subjective, then you can’t argue with the second. On the other hand, screen resolution allows you to view sites "as is", without using horizontal scrolling and zooming.

The AllShare application allows you to connect, for example, to a laptop or desktop PC via Wi-Fi and view or listen to files while lying on the couch. Convenient and implemented simply and efficiently.

Social Hub is an aggregator of all your social Internet activity. You can link Facebook, Twitter accounts to it. The program is quite convenient and informative, but the function of loading the following tweets “Show more” caused bewilderment due to its inoperability.

Polaris Office is a powerful tool for viewing and editing documents. It supports many formats and its functionality seemed to me even unnecessary. On the other hand - a lot - not a little.

The music player is quite simple and intuitive. Equalizer settings, sound effects, sorting by artists, years, genres, folders, composers and so on are available. To change it to any other, by and large, and there is nothing. Only if you are not satisfied with the sound quality. It seemed to me very good even without the inclusion of additional “improvers”. When you increase the volume, the tablet gently warns you that high volume may cause hearing problems.

Image and video gallery is typical for Android. The video player boasts omnivorous formats. Everything that I threw on the device was displayed without problems. True, I did not check Full HD films, since I see the point in watching such pictures on the tablet screen. The factory video, by the way, is made in Full-HD format and looks great. But, as for me, HD video will be quite enough, especially considering the screen resolution of the device. The image will pleasantly amaze you with clarity and deep juicy colors. What Super AMOLED screens are good for is video. It's hard to argue with that.

Built-in photo and video editors are enough powerful tools for editing footage.

The note-taking app is very simple yet functional. It allows you to attach and protect a note with a pin code, sync it with Google, or send it to another device. “Notes” offer almost the same thing, but by hand.

Samsung Apps and GameHub give you access to a variety of games and apps optimized for your tablet.

“Books and Press” allows you to read for free (at first) certain newspapers and magazines with which Samsung has agreed to cooperate. The list of Russian-language publications is constantly growing. Also right from here you can buy books or download free ones.

The tablet is equipped with everything necessary for full-fledged work “out of the box”. There are even non-Android built-in task manager and file manager.

As a navigation software on the tablet standard for Android “Google Maps” is installed. The location is determined quickly, and with a good Internet speed, it is generally instantaneous. For everyday use, the functionality of the program is more than enough.

YouTube in the version for tablets looks nice and visual, it's a pleasure to use it.

Application " world time” displays on the world map the cities you have selected and their time.

"Calendar" is also simple and visual. When you sync your tablet with a client social network“VKontakte” or Facebook, the calendar displays the birthdays of your friends, and the application widget will help you remember to congratulate them, in which all these days are marked with small blue rectangles.

    Camera

Of course, this item in tablets is far from the most important, but who knows when exactly a camera may come in handy for you, and besides a tablet, there may be nothing else at hand. With this, Tab 7.7 is all right. Photos are of above average quality. True, in low light, the speed of the camera slows down very much. As for the video, everything is fine here too. I really liked the quality of the video, but shooting on a tablet is incredibly inconvenient and you are unlikely to want to do this often. This is explained by the fact that microphones for high-quality stereo sound recording are placed along different sides devices, but as luck would have it, that is where your hands end up during the shooting. The only alternative is to hold the tablet upright.

There are a lot of settings in the photo, in the video mode, but there is nothing special here, and if you have ever shot with a phone or camera, you can easily figure it out here. Examples of photos and videos:

    User experience

The tablet is equipped with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Samsung Exynos 4210 (Cortex A9) processor with Mali-400MP graphics and 1 GB of RAM, so in terms of performance, the device shows itself the best way. Heavy games, applications in the background, HD-video - everything works with a bang. Interface brakes can be attributed to the TouchWiz shell, which promises to become more nimble and smooth with the update to Android 4.0.

In benchmarks, the device showed itself at a high level. You can see the test results in the screenshots.

Battery life is a strong point of the tablet. The 5100 mAh battery does the trick. In my hands, Tab 7.7 lived quietly for a day and a half in active use with a SIM card and all wireless modules, and more than 3 days in the “sometimes surf the Internet while lying on the couch” mode. If you do not load the device and use it from time to time, then it will calmly last a week. In video playback mode, the unit operates for approximately 9 hours. The operating time, of course, can fluctuate both up and down depending on the quality of the video being played, but, in general, the tablet works out the 10 hours declared by the manufacturer in video mode.

The screen pleases with good viewing angles, but I do not like the display of white color. At the same time, rich colors and high brightness and contrast can overshadow all the shortcomings. In the sun, the screen behaves well, the information remains readable. The display recognizes 10 simultaneous touches.

The tablet noticeably heats up during active use, and the metal back cover here only exacerbates the situation, however, the temperature is within normal limits, it does not burn your hands and you can use the device without fear.

    Outcome

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 could easily be called the ideal Android tablet: thin, stylish, light, with a good screen and great battery life, but there is one “but” - the price. Officially, the device now costs about 25 thousand rubles for the younger version. A “gray” tablet can be bought for 16-17 thousand, and for this price the tablet looks incredibly attractive. The only downsides are slight slowdowns in the interface and a peculiar display of white color, but this parameter is rather subjective and many will probably not even focus on this. In addition, the plans include an update to Android 4.0, which optimizes everything and everyone. The original cable for connecting to a PC and charging can also be a hassle, but with such battery life, it is very difficult to be left without charging at the wrong time, so there is no need to constantly carry it with you.

    ;

The previous Galaxy Tab we tested, we, together with the German judges, recognized suspiciously similar to Apple iPad. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800 presented at IFA does not inspire such obsessive thoughts about apples at first glance. Because now it looks a bit like HTC Flyer. No, all the tablets are almost the same on the front: the screen and the black frame, but on the back…

⇡ Appearance: all felt-tip pens look the same

The similarity with the “flyer” is due to the structure of the rear panel: plastic silver stripes of the same color at the top and bottom, the main part of the cover is made of metal of a different shade in the middle. The camera eye is closer to the upper left corner, the metallized manufacturer's logo sticker is closer to the center. Difficult, difficult to do something really unique. And if it turns out, then it’s not a fact that the result will be ergonomic in addition. So let's not criticize Samsung, especially since HTC is not going to sue the Koreans yet. In addition, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is most similar to the Galaxy Tab, and not to anything else.

Since the shape and location of the controls of the novelty are exceptionally standard, it is quite convenient to use it - there are almost no ergonomic miscalculations. Personally, the author of this note does not like the typically Samsung location of the power button on the side, but the author, as you know, is still picky. Everything else is in its place: the volume controls are on the same side, the plugs for the SIM-card slots and the micro-discs are on the opposite side. Two speakers settled at the bottom (both can be blocked by hand, but difficult), a microphone and a 30-pin proprietary connector, and another microphone and a 3.5 mm mini-jack on top.

⇡ Screen: the best you've ever seen

Actually, the screen is the main part of any tablet, and for Samsung, the display of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is simply pride: where else can you find a Super AMOLED matrix with a diagonal of 7.7 inches and a resolution of 1280x800? And nowhere, no other AMOLED matrices big size does not put in tablets.

The display insistently demands attention, makes you admire it. Endless in the truest sense of the word contrast, unchanged color reproduction when viewed from any angle - juicy, saturated colors. Beauty! You can’t call the brightness sky-high: 234 cd / m 2 is an average. But the contrast saves the matter, our colorimeter honestly measured zero for the luminosity of the black field (and he was right!), So the image looks great. In the best traditions of AMOLED. True, the color temperature is raised to an indecent value - 10000 K. It would be possible to calibrate this display ...

Diagonal 7.7 inches can be called original and unexpectedly comfortable. Many owners of 7-inch tablets have already felt that 7 inches is not enough. On the other hand, 10 inches is already a big brick, which is not very pleasant to hold with one hand. A 10% increase in screen diagonal results in a 20% increase in screen area. And the extra fifth of the display is not superfluous at all: there is more space, and the tablet still lies just as well in the hand. And all because it is light - 343 grams and thin - 7.89 mm.

⇡ Camera: shoots - and okay

In phones, a high-quality camera is usually attached to a high-quality screen. But it's not like that on tablets. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is sort of like Samsung's flagship tablet, but the camera is not even flagship at all: 3.2 megapixels is not enough by today's standards. However, she shoots surprisingly not so bad: the frames are not too noisy, quite sharp. Unless the focusing distance is large - you can’t shoot macro, but the dynamic range is somehow not enough at all - faded photos frankly do not look on the juicy Korean screen.

The matrix in the camera is installed, albeit tiny, but fast. Because it can withstand video shooting at 1280x720 at 24 frames per second without any problems. The output videos are tolerable - at the level of what most modern smartphones shoot. Only “soapy” - Galaxy Tab painfully cannot focus in video mode. By the way, when switching the camera to video mode, the tablet carefully warns: "Do not block the microphones, master." If he were a living being, he would also grin vilely at this moment, because, of course, you can take a tablet so as not to block at least one of the two microphones, but it turns out to be somehow painfully unnatural. In addition, videos using the Galaxy Tab 7.7 are still more pleasant to watch than to shoot.

    ⇡ Battery: outlive everyone

Cinema on such a screen looks ... just oh how it looks, even despite the modest diagonal. The built-in player plays both HD videos and Full HD videos without any problems. We cranked the sound to the minimum, the brightness to the maximum, and looped the trailer for Fallout: New Vegas in HD quality. And they did it in the evening, honestly hoping that the tablet would last 6 hours and go for recharging.

But it was not there, from 100 to 5% Galaxy Tab 7.7 was discharged in 11 hours 38 minutes. In some devices, Samsung manages to make a fantastically inaccurate indicator of the remaining charge - but in the P6800 the discharge curve is more or less even, the indicator can be trusted.

⇡ Communication: everything is as it should be

We will pay a minimum of attention to this point, because talking about the fact that everything works as it should work is terribly boring. The cellular network is caught, data is received, the promised 21 Mbit / s input will not be developed by any Russian operator for many years, so testing high-speed 3G equipment in our networks is practically useless. And Wi-Fi works, even a little better than others, and Bluetooth works, and GPS works, including indoors. And even the tablet connects to the computer. But there are some peculiarities.

    ⇡ Phone: he also talks

I'm sorry, what? Telephone! Yes, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is equipped with a GSM module for a reason. He knows how to call. And, I must say, it does it quite decently. An array of two microphones suppresses noise quite well, you can dial a number on such a screen without looking - unless a person with an almost 8-inch tablet near his ear looks a bit ... strange, in general, he looks. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 even has a vibrating alert! True, if the Galaxy Note stuck out of the pocket, then the Tab 7.7 simply does not fit in there (true for 90% of the tested pockets) - it’s not the most convenient phone.

So that a person who decides to communicate using the P6800 does not look like a clinical idiot, Samsung offers him a funny accessory: a long thin Bluetooth headset, more like a pen. It is impossible to hang it on your ear - there are no fasteners, it is proposed to simply remove the “pen” from your jacket pocket, put it to your ear and talk to her. And don't look like an idiot. In general, if you really need it, the tablet can also replace the phone. But it's better not to use it.

⇡ Filling: engineers - five, developers - two

If in the previous Galaxy Tabs, with the exception of the very first one, Samsung used the standard Tegra 2 platform for Google Android 3.x, then in the new flagship tablet it was reasonably sent to retire. So instead of a heart, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 has a 1.4 GHz dual-core Exynos, complemented by a powerful Mali-400MP graphics chip and 1 GB of RAM.

In all, without exception, graphics and computing benchmarks, such a configuration blows the Tegra to smithereens, outperforming it by one and a half, or even two times. Of course, the difference in Android versions also affects - the Galaxy Tab 8.9 had a damp 3.1 Honeycomb, while the Galaxy Tab 7.7 "from the cradle" was endowed with version 3.2. But iron also played an important role.

We haven't tested tablets in BrowserMark and SunSpider before, so we can only compare the performance of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with those of the iPhone 4s (iOS 5). The dream of hipsters around the world in SunSpider is gaining 2231 ms, and in BrowserMark - 86768 points, Samsung has similar figures: 1963.7 ms (slightly better) and 82661 points (slightly worse), respectively.

⇡ Soft: we wanted the best, it turned out as always

So why does the tablet manage to slow down ?! Apparently, the talent of the developers from Samsung, who riveted the TouchWiz UX shell for tablets on Honeycomb, is affecting. When you see how such hardware can not cope with the smooth display of effects on the desktop, thoughts begin to creep into your head that in the code of this shell, through each line, there is something like delay 30 in milliseconds. Funny and sad, honestly!

Or here's another example: the Galaxy Tab 7.7, like all normal (and abnormal) tablets, has a gyroscope. We rotate the tablet from vertical to horizontal, and then quickly return to its original position. Only a couple of seconds after that, the image will turn to landscape orientation, after which the operating system will think for another two or three seconds and return everything to its place. How, Samsung, how do you do it?!

Otherwise, by the way, TouchWiz UX is not as terrible as the regular TouchWiz for smartphones. Firstly, there is no hated (personally to the author of the article and not only) program KIES, which obsessively offered its services when trying to do at least something with the Galaxy S II and PC at the same time. The tablet, without unnecessary settings, connects to the computer via MTP, you can copy everything you want from it, and to it too. Hooray. At the same time, however, there is no occasionally useful KIES Air, but its absence can be easily corrected with the help of some AirDroid.

Secondly, Google's Android 3.x OS is really a little scary and illogical, and Samsung programmers sculpted the interfaces covering it not just for the sake of it, but in the name of improving the system. So, for example, a quick menu was added, called from the bottom of the screen, no matter what application you are in. By default, a lot of all sorts of meaningless programs are crammed there, but no one bothers to register your own there.

Third, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 comes preloaded with the best keyboard of all time, also known as Swype. On a tablet, I must say, its capabilities are almost useless, but the layout and key sizes of Swype are still better than most other keyboards. Other Galaxy Tabs, by the way, do not have Swype available - you have to look for it on the Internet.

If you search, there will be some more nice additions, although there is a lot of useless software like beloved “hubs”. In general, if not for the brakes, the TouchWiz UX shell could be called overloaded, but pleasant. Considering how things are with her performance, I would like to politely ask Samsung to unlock the bootloader so that CyanogenMod 9 could be installed on the Galaxy Tab 7.7. True, they say that the magical Odin still works, and the acid-blue “android” is installed , but we, frankly, did not check.

⇡ Conclusion: the best does not come cheap

Samsung in its repertoire. If you look separately at the hardware, you can safely stand up and applaud: the Koreans have made a thin and light tablet with a great screen, built on a powerful platform, which, in addition to everything else, also has a long battery life. Yes, the cameras are not the best, but such a trifle Galaxy Tab 7.7 can be forgiven.

Now we add to this a generally pretty shell. It seems that we should continue to rejoice, but, firstly, the shell slows down, and secondly, it is a little oversaturated with useless software (crapware, bloatware - as you like), which is not only annoying, but annoying. The first problem will probably be solved when the Galaxy Tab 7.7 receives an update to Google Android Ice Cream Sandwitch - they promise it will be “soon, soon”. And the second problem is not such a problem, so after upgrading to ICS, Galaxy Tab owners have a chance to get an almost perfect tablet.

There remains a third and final problem: the price. For 29,990 rubles (which is exactly what they ask for the 16 GB version), you can equip the whole family with cheaper tablets or, for example, buy a good laptop. The 64 GB model costs even more - almost 35 thousand. Even Apple does not make such expensive tablets. So you can only spend this amount on a tablet if you realize that you really need a tablet and do not want to compromise.

As soon as you think about compromises, there is the Galaxy Tab 7.0+. It does not have such an outstanding display, it is thicker, plastic, but with the same hardware filling, while almost half the price. And soon there will also be a Galaxy Tab 2.0 (oh, Koreans will confuse a simple buyer). And in general inexpensive tablets enough. But to this day we have not seen better ones.

    Positioning

At the end of January, Samsung announced in Russia another tablet called Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800. You could see part of the presentation and the first acquaintance with the device on our official YouTube channel.

The South Korean vendor finally listened to the pleas of users and fulfilled one of the requests: he made part of the P6800 case from metal. In addition, the manufacturer installed a proprietary SuperAMOLED Plus matrix and its own Exynos chipset with a dual-core 1.4 GHz processor. The good news is that the novelty has acquired a slot for installing microSD memory cards - this is an indisputable and significant plus compared to the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 tablets, which have only internal Flash memory. By the way, Taba 7.7 also has a speech speaker: you can talk on it, but from the outside it looks, to put it mildly, unusual. So seeing how a person communicates on Samsung Galaxy Note, this time will seem completely unremarkable to you.

The cost of a tablet with 16 GB of internal memory is 29,990 rubles. Later, the older model Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 with 64 GB of memory will also go on sale. Its recommended retail price will be 34,990 rubles.

    Design, dimensions, controls

Tablet Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a symbiosis of Galaxy Note and Wave 3. From the first device Tab 7.7 "took" appearance front panel, and from the second - the back of the case. The upper and lower halves of the back side, as well as the edging around the perimeter, are made of plastic gray color, the central region is metallic. The assembly is perfect: nothing creaks or backlash. Fingerprints are visible only on the screen, however, they are erased very easily. The case, frankly, is slippery, so it’s better to buy some kind of case right away: it’s more pleasant to hold in your hand and the screen will be covered.

The dimensions of the device are as follows: 196.7x133x7.9 mm and weight - 335 grams, i.e. The P6800 is 0.7 millimeters thinner and 118 grams lighter than the Galaxy Tab 8.9. But in general, the difference is not very noticeable.

There are two sensors on the front panel - illumination and proximity. Next to them are the front camera and speaker. Its volume is very high, there is a margin, you can hear the interlocutor clearly and legibly, the timbre is pleasant. Interestingly, you can lean your ear against the tablet during a conversation almost anywhere - the sound is transmitted perfectly almost throughout the entire body.

On the top side there is a standard 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones or a headset, an additional microphone for noise suppression and stereo sound recording. On the bottom there are two stereo speakers, a proprietary Samsung connector and a main microphone. Its location, from my point of view, is unfortunate, since during video recording it is covered right hand. On the left are two compartments: for a SIM card and a microSD memory card. On the right is the on / off / phone lock button and the volume rocker.

The commercial version of the device will not have an infrared port, which you could see in the photo and video earlier. The back panel is not removable, so there is no access to the battery.

    Display

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the world's first SuperAMOLED Plus tablet, which comes as no surprise since the screen is made by Samsung itself. The display diagonal, as you might guess from the name, is 7.7 inches, the physical size is 165x103 mm, the resolution is 800x1280 pixels, and the density is 196 pixels per inch. The sensor is made using capacitive technology with up to 10 simultaneous touches. The sensitivity is high and comparable to that of previous models.

The viewing angles are great, neither the color reproduction nor the contrast change when tilted, only the brightness drops slightly. Compared to the IPS-matrix in Tab 8.9 and 10.1, in Tab 7.7 the “depth” of black is maximum. Below you can see photos of images on the displays of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (bottom), Galaxy Note (SuperAMOLED matrix) and LG Prada (top, IPS matrix "NOVA"):

Personally, I liked the image produced by the LG smartphone more, even though the brightness drops at angles. It seems to me that the colors on the Prada screen are more natural, the white color is especially accurately reproduced.

The brightness can be adjusted either manually or switched to automatic mode, as there is a light sensor on the front of the tablet. It is tall, but somewhat loses to the tablet from Apple. In the settings there is an item "Screen mode". In it, you can adjust the color temperature according to three parameters: "dynamic", "standard" and "film". In my opinion, the first parameter gives too saturated colors, the last one leads to cold shades, and the middle value is the most comfortable for displaying photos and videos. Below - Samsung comparison Tab 7.7 and Note in "dynamic" modes, as well as LG Prada.

The screen fades in the sun, but the information is read well. The device has an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a compass.

    Battery

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 has a 5100 mAh non-removable lithium polymer (Li-Pol) battery (7000 mAh in the Tab 10.1 and 6100 mAh in the Tab 8.9). The manufacturer claims that a full charge should last up to 1200 hours of standby time (1500 in 2G), up to 30 hours of talk time, about 10 hours of video playback and 50 hours of music listening. These numbers are close to what I got in practice. For example, when playing HD movies at maximum brightness and outputting sound to the speakers, the battery lasted for 7.5 hours, when playing music - for 45 hours, and for talking - up to 20 hours.

On average, the battery was discharged on the second day with the following tablet operation mode: automatic backlight brightness, 20-25 minutes of voice communication, 3G Internet for about 4 hours and the same amount of Wi-Fi, watching an hour and a half movie and two hours of listening to music through the speakers, as well as photographing for about one hour. Even at maximum load (high brightness of the backlight, games, performance tests, etc.), the battery was discharged after 7 hours. When using only Internet surfing, the battery lasts up to 40 hours.

In the device settings there is a special section "Power Saving Mode". You have the right to enable or disable the power saving function. There are many options: disable Wi-Fi when not connected to mobile internet, turn off Bluetooth and/or GPS when idle, turn off synchronization, change the backlight brightness level, etc. There is even an item "Information about energy saving" - tips for saving energy. When this mode is enabled, the corresponding icon appears in the notification area.

The tablet does not charge from USB, and it will take about three hours from the network to fully charge.

    Communication options

The tablet works in 2G (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) and 3G networks (HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100). HSDPA speed reaches 21 Mbps.

A complete “gentleman's” set is available: Bluetooth version 3.0 with support for the A2DP stereo profile, Wi-Fi standards a / b / g / n (Dual-band 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz) with the ability to “distribute” the Internet (access point “Wi-Fi Hotspot ”), file transfer (Wi-Fi Direct), and high-speed Wi-Fi Channel Bonding. USB 2.0 with USB host function (proprietary connector). For additional accessories, such as a USB hub or keyboard, special adapters are sold. You can “connect” over the air from a PC through KIES. There is a special item in the settings.

I had a curious accessory in my hands - the Samsung HM5000 Bluetooth headset. It is a plastic flattened and elongated rectangle with a speaker, a microphone, an answer/reset call button and a clip. The microUSB port is used for charging. A peculiar, but cool little thing that will come in handy for those who also use the tablet as a phone.

    Memory and memory card

The device has 1 GB of RAM (766 MB available), and free on average about 250 MB. Internal Flash memory can be 16 and 64 GB. Unlike Tab 8.9 and 10.1, Tab 7.7 has a slot for installing a microSD memory card (hot swap is supported). The maximum volume is up to 32 GB. With a simple calculation, you can calculate the total amount of memory - 96 GB.

    Camera

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 has two camera modules: front - 2 MP without autofocus and a large depth of field, the main one - 3MP with autofocus and LED (single-section LED) flash.

All quality parameters of the camera are the same as those of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 models. The maximum photo resolution is up to 2048x1536 pixels. The color rendition is natural, the white balance is almost perfect, the picture clarity is satisfactory. Focusing is carried out by specifying a point on the screen.

Videos are recorded in 720p resolution (1280x720 pixels) at 30 frames per second: a smooth change in brightness, the ability to select a focus point, but a critically small viewing angle - as if you are shooting with a threefold increase. By the way, the bitrate in Tab 7.7 has increased by 1 Mbps compared to Tab 8.9, and the sound quality has also improved: the bitrate has grown from 60 Kbps to 128, and the sampling rate has grown from 16 kHz to 44.

Photo mode interface: on the right - switching photo / video, activating the shutter, entering the gallery; on the left - flash (auto, forced on, off), switching to the front camera, shooting mode (single shot, smile shot, panorama, motion shot), timer (off, 2 - 10 seconds), brightness (from -2 to + 2), settings.

    Performance

The tablet runs on Samsung's own S5PV310 Exynos 4210 chipset (SMDKC210, ARMv7, 45nm). The processor is a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 with a clock speed of 1.4 GHz for each core. Mali-400 MP acts as a graphics accelerator. Supports 2D vector graphics with OpenVG 1.1 and 3D graphics with OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0. Mali-400 is a fully programmable architecture providing high performance and API based shader support. In details .

The Samsung Galaxy Note has a similar configuration.

I expected that the programmers at Samsung would fix those "bugs" that were on firmware 3.1, but, unfortunately, they did not "fix" anything: how virtual desktops slowed down when scrolling - they slow down, the menu with application shortcuts too " lie." It's good that these unpleasant moments do not affect the speed in games, applications and watching video files.

    Brief technical information:

    Performance Tests:

    Antutu Benchmark

    Navigation

The chipset has an integrated GPS module. For navigation, free "Maps" from Google are used, along with "Navigation". "Cold start" - about 5-7 minutes, "hot" - up to 10 seconds. A-GPS or Wi-Fi can help determine coordinates more accurately.

    Software platform, shell and menu

The device operates on the operating system Google Android version 3.2. Firmware version is P6800XXLA3, build number is HTj85B P6800XXLA4. Naturally, a software update to Android 4.0 ICS will soon be available.

Samsung's proprietary UI - TouchWIZ - is used as the shell. To activate the display backlight, press the power button. The desktop appears with a pre-installed screen saver, clock, date, information about missed events, battery charging and Wi-Fi network. And to unlock the tablet, you need to drag the circle with the lock pattern to the side.

The following tablet controls are located on the screen:

    • bottom left - buttons "Back", "Home", displaying previously running applications, "creating a screenshot"
    • at the bottom center is an icon with an up arrow pattern. When you click on it, several shortcuts will pop up to launch widgets. There are 10 of them in total: "Phone", "Messages", "Alarm Clock", "Music", "World Clock", "Calendar", "Notes", "Task Manager", "Mail Client". Unlike the previous version of the OS, widgets can be removed or added. Each of them in the running state can be moved to any part of the screen, and on top of all applications (like windows in Windows)
    • bottom right: clock, battery indicator, Wi-Fi network indicator. If you click on the "clock", a small menu will open - this is a notification panel with the ability to enable or disable Wi-Fi, GPS, sound, auto-rotate. There you can also adjust the brightness of the screen backlight and call up the tablet settings.
    • top left - Google search
    • at the top right - launching the menu with applications and a “cross”, by clicking on which you will be taken to the main screen settings menu (widgets, application shortcuts, wallpapers, options)

    The default desktops are 7.

The menu contains up to 35 program icons in a 5x7 grid on one screen. With a long press on one of them, desktop thumbnails appear under the menu, where application shortcuts are dragged. And above the menu is the Google Android Market shortcut, when you click on it, the “app store” will open.

The settings have been changed: if in Android 3.1 the background was light gray with white tabs, then in Android 3.2 the background is black with dark gray tabs. In addition, if you do not use the touchscreen for a while, for example, when viewing a photo or video, the bottom panel ("Back", "Home", etc.) is hidden, leaving barely noticeable dots indicating the location of the controls.

    Challenges

The Phone application is used to enter the number. The dialer is huge, it is convenient to dial numbers. At the top there will be the following tabs: Dial, Logs, Contacts, Favorites, Groups. When dialing the first three digits of a phone number, the smartphone displays a list of subscribers with these numbers. When calling, the contact's avatar, call hold icon, call addition, keyboard, call end are displayed. In addition, you can turn on the speakerphone, mute / unmute the microphone and switch to a Bluetooth headset.

The phone book ("Contacts") displays the subscriber's avatar, his name and surname. If you click on the name of the subscriber, detailed information appears on the right side of the screen, as well as a call log. To add a new entry to the contact, you must click on the "plus" located in the top panel.

When adding a contact, the following data is entered:

    • Surname
    • Phone number
    • internet call
    • Email
    • Google Talk
    • Groups
    • Ringtone
    • Mailing address
    • Organization
    • Other Options

The log displays the contact's avatar, contact name, phone number, call time. In the log settings, the view is sorted: for example, display only missed calls, only outgoing calls, and so on. When you select a subscriber in the log (on the right side of the screen), you can find out how long the conversation lasted, send a short message or make a call. In addition, if necessary, the number is added to the "black list" (long-term holding of the finger on the contact).

    Messages

To work with messages, you need to run the appropriate application. On the left, all incoming messages are displayed, on the right, the text itself.

To create a new message, you need to click on the icon with a picture of an envelope and a pen. In the window that opens, the subscriber's number is entered at the top or selected from the contact list, below is the text input window, on the right is “send”, on the left is attach attachments.

The input method is selected in "Settings". Available for text input: Swype and Android Keyboard. If you make a mistake when entering text, click on the corrected word and move the pointer to the place where you want to correct the typo. Interestingly, two new features have been added to the keyboard interface: at the bottom right - open a list of screenshots, at the top left - turn on the keyboard with a reduced font.

In the settings, text, emoticons, slides and themes are added. Unfortunately, you can not choose the font size, from my point of view, it is too small.

    Applications

As with any Android tablet, there is an "app store" Android Market. I will list only those that are already installed in this model:

AllShare. Used to transfer media files to DLNA-certified devices.

    Email. Mail client.

G-mail. Email client for Google Mail. After adding the corresponding account, it is automatically configured to receive / send messages.

    Google Talk. Chat by Google.

    Web browser

An excellent browser that supports bookmarks (opened more than 30 without problems), their synchronization with Google Chrome, Flash viewing and work with a motion sensor (touching the screen at two points and tilting the tablet, you can zoom in or out of the web page). The only thing worth noting is that when you open many tabs, minimize and restart, all pages are not saved in memory and are reloaded again.

    Multimedia

    Music player

On the left are the options by which you can organize your music: albums, artists, genres, folders, composers, years. The list of albums, songs, etc. will open directly in the center. On the right - the player control system and the list of music files. If you click on the cover at the top right, it will expand to full screen.

Settings are located in the drop-down menu at the top right. You can set one of the presets in them: auto, rock, pop, jazz, classical, dance, live sound. There is a customizable eight-band equalizer (from 125 Hz to 12 kHz).

The volume of two stereo speakers is high: it is comfortable to listen to music and watch movies at a distance of up to two meters. The speakers are located close to each other, so the stereo effect is slightly less pronounced than on the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Headphone volume is also high, and the quality is one of the best among portable multimedia devices. But there is one gripe - the low frequencies are somewhat overwhelmed!

Supported music files: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, apt-X(BT codec).

    Video player

To start the video player, you need to go to the menu and select the "Video player" program. The smartphone automatically scans the microSD card and internal memory for video files. Tab 7.7 plays almost all video formats and codecs (formats: 3GP, MKV, AVI, MPG, FLV, WMV; codecs: Mpeg4, H263, H264, DivX, XViD and VC-1). Doesn't accurately play VOB and MPG. In the player settings, the required brightness, tone and visibility on the street are set. The maximum resolution is up to 1080p. By installing third-party video players, you can achieve support for both VOB and MPG.

    Conclusion

There are no complaints about the quality of communication: good and confident reception. The vibrating alert is quite powerful, despite the dimensions of the device.

In general, I can state that this time Samsung has turned out to be an excellent tablet. The undeniable advantages are: SuperAMOLED Plus matrix, powerful chipset and graphics accelerator, as well as a high-quality case. On this moment the device, from my point of view, is relatively expensive, and therefore I would advise you to wait a bit: firstly, the price will decrease, and secondly, the firmware will be updated to Android 4.0 ICS. Perhaps it is this version of the software that will fix the numerous slowdowns in the user interface.

However, if the cost of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 scares you off, it makes sense to take a closer look at the Galaxy Tab 8.9, which is sold for 10,000 rubles cheaper, and functionally not much worse. Both options do not work - buy the Apple iPad 2, as they say, "for sure."
