• Compiling your own dictionaries. DictMaster - a program for compiling dictionaries and working with them "Master-Slovaster" Programs for editing dictionaries

7 different types of exercises will help you memorize words quickly and less tiringly than with regular cramming. Transcription, pictures and examples of the use of words will increase efficiency and speed up the process of memorizing words. With each training, the level of knowledge of the passed words changes.
The list of trainings includes: visual search for a suitable word and translation, correct spelling of a word, matching words and translations, memorizing the pronunciation of words in automatically changing cards in case your hands are busy (for example, while driving).

    Words

When adding a new word, its translation, transcription, usage examples and pictures are automatically searched. The database of words is constantly updated.
You can add words through an Excel file (for example, obtained from the Lingvo program), or download ready-made sets of words from the server.

    Pictures to words

You can add an unlimited number of pictures to words. In addition, you can add a photo or picture from the device (from the gallery). Also, using the built-in editor, you can draw your own picture, or change the added photo. This function is especially useful for complex words that cannot be learned in any way, in which case visual memory will increase the efficiency of memorization.

    Alerts

With customizable alerts, you can learn words without even opening the app. Just set up a schedule for alerts and select the words that your device will remind you of. For example, you can set reminders every hour during the day from 10 am to 11 pm. If you have a "Smart watch" then alerts will also come to them, which will further simplify the study and repetition of words.

    Statistics

Each word has a level of knowledge, which varies depending on the passage, both up and down. Using the level of knowledge, you can find out which words are more or less learned, hide learned words, filter words by level of knowledge in training and alerts (for example, repeat only the least learned words).
In addition, the application has training statistics, with which you can monitor the daily activity of training and the number of words learned.

annotation: This program is written as a continuation of work on the Japanese-Russian dictionary. I wrote translation programs from English several times, filling in the gaps in my knowledge. At a certain stage, I realized that a translator cannot write a good program without a good dictionary. It makes no sense to write a program for working with a dictionary for one language. For these reasons, the idea was born to write a universal program for working with dictionaries.

    Program description

The program allows you to create, check, edit dictionaries for any purpose and for any national languages and use the created dictionaries. Main functions:

      Creating an empty dictionary.

      Filling the dictionary with content.

Uploading the created dictionary to a text (windows and unicode) or Word file with the possibility of mutual conversion of codes.

Using the created dictionary as an electronic dictionary (similar to Lingvo).

The program has many settings that allow you to adjust the settings "for yourself".

The author recommends using the text format when creating and editing dictionaries, and only at the final stage, save the file in Word format (if you need it). The reason is that loading 1,000 records will take 1 second, respectively, 50,000 records - 50 seconds. At the same time, the use of Unicode in a text file allows you to work with records in various national encodings, and download a dictionary in 1-2 seconds.

    Established conventions

The dictionary is formed according to the principle "one line - one entry" (in Word - "one paragraph - one entry").

Before the first separator is the translated (interpreted) word or group of words. The separator type is set on the "Settings" tab. Further, through the second separator, the type of which can also be set on the "Settings" page, there are the words of the translation. In the example below, ";" is selected as delimiters, which indicates that the same delimiters are allowed. Explanations are placed in square brackets.

Delimiter and explanation conventions make it possible to further simplify the creation of electronic translator programs.

West;west; west; in the west west country; western England west german; West German; resident of West Germany; a resident of West Germany west germany; West Germany. West Indian; West Indian; West Indian; West Indian west indies; West Indian west virginia; West Virginia [US] westbound; westbound; western direction

    Program splash screen

The program at startup displays the splash screen of the program, which is located in the file ("zast.jpg") in the directory where the ".exe" file is.

The original tab contains many covers of dictionaries, according to the author, the program can be used to compile any such dictionary .

You can easily change the screensaver by replacing this file or use the "View" menu, the group of items "Actions to change the screensaver" (performed sequentially). In addition, you can refuse to display the splash screen at all by checking the "View" menu - the item "Do not display / display splash screen". Then at the next start, the "Check dictionaries" tab will be the starting one.

    "Editing dictionaries" tab

On this tab there is an opportunity (Fig.2,3.):

Create a new dictionary ("Create Dictionary" button).

Load dictionary (button "Load verified dictionary for editing").

Unload dictionary without saving ("Reset" button).

Add new entries to the dictionary. Enter into the window "Translatable (interpreted) word (group of words)", respectively, the translated (interpreted) word or group of words, and into the window "Translation words / Search words" the words of the translation through the selected separator (it is displayed on the button above the window "Translation words / Search words" on the right) and click the "Add to dictionary" button. If the word is not in the dictionary, then it (together with the interpretation) will be added to the dictionary. Don't forget to save the dictionary after adding words.

Quickly add comments to the translation words by enclosing them in square brackets. The set of comment words is configured to suit your needs (Settings tab).

Change any entry by selecting it (the "Find word translation" button), then make changes and click the "Edit \ Add translation" button.

Delete any entry by selecting it ("Find word translation" button) and pressing the "Delete" button.

Use the Windows clipboard to select both translated words and translation words (three buttons with arrows). Moreover, when entering translation words, you can use entering from the buffer without preliminary processing and using the substitution of separators specified in the program (respectively, the left and right buttons with an arrow above the window).

Use reverse lookup. For example, let's enter "shout" in the translation field and click the "Find translatable word for the translation word" button. The program will sequentially output matching words from the dictionary (for example, I have "shout", "yell") along with their translation words.

    Fig.3. "Editing dictionaries" tab

    Bookmark "Work with dictionary"

The bookmark is designed to use the dictionary in two modes:

Simple translation mode. Type a word in the "Translated word (group of words)" window and click the "Find word translation" button.

Extended translation mode. When typing a word in the "Translated word (group of words)" window, after entering each letter, all words starting with the letters already entered are displayed. Moreover, the first word is displayed that exactly matches the entered letters (if any, Fig. 4.), the second, the word that has the minimum number of letters from those available in the dictionary with the beginning already entered, and then alphabetically. Translation strings are separated by a separator, the character of which and the number of repetitions are set on the "Settings" page.

The pages "Editing dictionaries" and "Working with a dictionary" are synchronized. This means that the dictionary loaded on any of these tabs is available on the other. This makes it possible, when using a dictionary, to go to the editing page, make changes that become available on both pages.

    Fig.4. Recording and viewing results

    Dictionary check tab

This tab checks dictionaries for matches (Fig.5.,6.) and removes duplicate words. Editing is performed taking into account the separators specified on the "Settings" tab. After editing, the dictionary can be saved in one of four formats.

The result of the introduction of this bookmark - the ability of the compiler of dictionaries to add new words to the end of the dictionary (word, text) and then, after performing a check, find all repetitions, edit the translation of words, save the dictionary in sorted form in any of the specified formats.

The program requires Windows XP SP2 or later to run.

The program was created with the expectation that your monitor has a screen resolution of at least 1024 * 768 and a color palette of at least "True Color" (you can play at 800 * 600).
