I have been working as a courier for over a year. From the first day to this moment I like my job. And I'll explain why:
1. The work schedule is excellent. G. Spending time in transport and while waiting for documents. Here I feel more like a happy person than an unhappy one. Here you can read, listen to music, sleep, talk on the phone, draw, write - whatever.
H. Variety of addresses. Due to the fact that a regular courier has many addresses, sometimes it is simply difficult to remember not only the addresses of the organization, but also floors, offices, and names.

Therefore, it is better to write everything down. And also record daily trips, since it is the courier who is often aware of what nuances there may be between organizations, what difficulties (in the example with documents) arise (incorrect filling).

I still work as a courier. For more than two years now. To the first part (Courier work: pros and cons) I would like to add a few points.
1. Local knowledge. Now, often, even when I’m driving to a new address and see familiar landmarks (metro, streets), a map of the city is assembled in my head, and from the very beginning I can imagine how long the journey will take and what routes I can take to get out of there. This is important because in addition to the new address, there are others that need to be reached, and preferably quickly.
2. Knowledge of addresses. Since I work in the same company, of course, they call me from my home office and ask me different questions, for example, “when did you go to such and such a company?” or “what documents did you give and was there a return?” There are other requests: “Give me the contacts of that company,” “how to get there?”, “tell them this and that (in words or gifts). It is advisable to remember all this, because they call unexpectedly and an answer must be given within five minutes.
3. Punctuality. Not only is punctuality generally necessary, but in connection with my work, it has developed in me to the point of ridiculousness. For example: I am in the Northern Administrative District of Moscow, and they ask me when I will arrive, for example, in the South-Eastern Administrative District of the capital. Well, having quickly calculated the metro speed and all sorts of ground nuances, I give an answer that may deviate by 5-10 minutes. So I answer with approximately a 10-20 minute range. If the address is within walking distance from the metro, then the time is calculated literally to the minute. Sometimes I answer like this: “I’ll be there in 45-47 minutes” (depending on the escalator - I’ll walk along it or stand). People laugh into the phone, and then they are surprised, they think I was standing outside the door with a timer.
4. Vacation. Perhaps lucky is the one who has a vacation of 2-4 weeks at once. I had no luck with this. Since I was the only courier for a lot of time, I was given sparse rest, i.e. one or two days a week. So, for two autumns in a row, I took Wednesdays off, starting in October until the new year. At first I was offended, I thought they wanted to humiliate me. But, after a couple of such weekends, I realized the beauty of such a vacation: working for two days and resting while others are working is a good feeling. With my look of contentment, I infected several of our other employees, who also liked this way of relaxing. As a result, a vacation of two weeks entirely in the summer and two weeks - on separate days, in a company where you can’t rest and cool off - that’s it.
5. The job is not for everyone. During my work I had one assistant. And we hired couriers twice for subsidiaries of the company, but despite the fact that we live in different places, the addresses are the same. Sometimes we exchange them, sometimes we both arrive at the same point at the same time, so we have to call each other and find out everyone’s routes. Two out of three couriers (a third is currently working) admitted that they thought of this vacancy as something easier and more rewarding. The most unpleasant thing for them was that they were given an address, but not always a telephone number and a map of directions. The result is different: in the worst case, they call me, and if I know this company, then I help them navigate. But I may not know. Then the person is simply angry at the incompetence of the office employees, who, indeed, were negligent in what they must always do clearly - give full coordinates, explaining how to get there.
6. Career. They suggested that you go to work in an office, but if you like to work on the street, if you like to work outside the schedule and without bosses, then it’s better to give up your career. What then in return, you ask? Surprisingly, you get a good reputation in return. You may be valued more than office employees, since there are several candidates for each position, but there are no candidates for the position of a courier, and even a permanent one (or even someone who is ill) for a short time. There are others like you, but it is almost impossible to replace you: no one knows all your addresses and contacts. Therefore, even if one of your office comrades treats you with disdain, then, with your hint and your reputation, they can calmly be asked to keep their opinion to themselves. But this is if you were able to prove your professional suitability not only in the number of days, but also in quality.
7. Health. As I wrote in the paragraph above, a person who gets sick a little is in great demand. Working as a courier makes you tough. I have been working for more than two years, but I have never taken sick leave due to my health. I was sick, no doubt about it, with a cold. Two or three days of runny nose and cough is not a reason for me to stay at home. But after that I had to urgently come up with something so as not to get sick anymore. I came up with an idea. I haven't felt sick for more than a year. The management is quite happy - all my “time off” is only due to vacation and is discussed in advance, I don’t present any surprises.
8. Little joys. They exist at every job, but I’ll write about mine:
A. shopping. I make most purchases only during working hours, when I have more than 10 minutes of rest, and there is a sale nearby. But because on weekends I relax, and there is no desire to go shopping, worry and count money. And so - there are pocket bills - I can spend them as much as I want, I still have money at home. I buy what really caught my attention. As a result, there are interesting books on the shelves, the child has rare toys (similar to USSR toys) and various small useful things that you simply cannot find in stores.
B. Personal matters. Yes, only at work can I do my personal business: visit a doctor, make some inquiries, solve problems, so to speak, on the spot. The phone is always at hand; The only thing that makes it difficult to talk is the subway.
B. Call each other by name. And this is another joy that, including me, keeps me firmly in this position. It’s very nice when you communicate with people from other companies and they mention your name. You feel “in the right place”, because there are a lot of couriers, but if they know your name and the organization you represent, then the meeting is much more pleasant. Easy, friendly conversations arise and, very likely, after such calls to each other, you can receive such benefits as coming to lunch, online consultation, and just a kind word.
G. When everything is urgent, it’s up to me to choose. The company is growing, there are many addresses. There are days when there are more than 10 urgent points, but thanks to physics, everyone understands that sometimes it is impossible to do them. Then I choose the places I will go to in order to increase the number. So what to do? The courier knows the shortest roads and approximately calculates the travel time, so whether you like it or not, you have to trust his words that these are the addresses and these are the routes that will improve “labor productivity.” Thus, I sometimes made up to 10 trips a day. Yes, my head can’t think straight after that, but I have enough strength to get home.
